The Mandalorian movie director Dave Filoni has confirmed setup for Imperial leader Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars: The Bad Batch. Created by legendary Star Wars novelist Timothy Zahn back in the ’90s, Grand Admiral Thrawn was envisioned as the Empire’s greatest tactician, the only alien to ascend to such a high rank. Although the original “Thrawn trilogy” is now considered non-canon, the character has made his way into the Disney era, and is set to be the main villain in the Disney+ TV shows (and upcoming movie) set in The Mandalorian era. Lucasfilm’s Dave Filoni has openly acknowledged he’s trying to honor the original incarnation, and do justice to Thrawn’s history.
